Picking up after the dogs left me throwing the waste into the garbage tote; those bags would get stuck to the bottom in the winter as they froze to the bin. The rest of the year, other trash piled on top of them would burst the bags and cause a mess in the garbage tote. So, I ordered one of these and cemented it in the yard with 2 bags of 60 lb. QuickCrete. Dog waste now stays there until trash day when the larger bag is summarily removed and placed on top of the tote's other trash and avoids the usual mess associated with chucking away 3 dogs' worth of weekly defecation. I've started throwing the mini bin of cat litter waste in there as well as that created a similar problem. Despite the lid and sealed (tied) bags of waste, this waste bin attracts flies, so I would not put it abutting your home but instead in a far corner of the yard. In my case, the far corner of the yard is where the dogs relieve themselves, so that's convenient. Mine was an Amazon Warehouse Deal and arrived with a missing sign; the DogiPot company was not helpful in resolving this situation and referred me back to Amazon. Since the thing was already installed and I don't much care about the sign, I ordered another sign I like better and fixed that to the post instead.
