This is a unique sling. It’s larger than most slings, so probably better for larger frames. I’m 6” 240lb and it sits on my back very comfortably. The materials are clearly very high quality and I love that the bag is fully designed and made in the US. The shoulder pad is long and super comfy on my shoulder/chest. The bag is split into two compartments; a back compartment that is slightly narrower, and a larger main front compartment. There’s also a smaller front pocket as well. The bag is very roomy for a sling and will easily accommodate a 32oz water bottle, towel, or whatever else you want to carry out and about. I find this bag to be a little too large to use when I’m just running errands. (For that I’m using the Alpaka Go Sling Pro). From my limited use I have found this bag works best for a full day out exploring a city or going to the beach etc. I bought both the waxed canvas and the limited edition camo cordura version from Defy’s site and while I loved the waxy feel of the canvas, I ultimately returned it and kept the cordura as it is more light weight which is important since I will be packing this in my suitcase to use as a day sling at my destination. As far as using the bag for tech, I found it isn’t ideal, but it’s doable. The back compartment has two pockets, making even the larger pocket too small for large tablets. If you use an iPad mini it would be perfect. But I use a 12.9” iPad Pro and I need to put my iPad in the compartment itself rather than the pocket. The reason this isn’t ideal is that there is cushioning on the back of the sling but there is no cushioning on the sides or bottom. For this reason I had to buy a separate sleeve to give the iPad extra protection. It works, but it means opening two zippers instead of one to access the iPad and it also takes up more space from the volume of the bag. Still, for trips to the cafe it should work just fine. Aside from adding more cushioning, another thing I wish for is a softer material on the interior, particularly in the back compartment and front pocket. The material on the inside matches the material on the outside, so my cordura version feels a little rough and scratchy on the inside, although the canvas did feel a little better.Overall, this is a very high quality and roomy sling with a rugged look and great durability. It’s the kind of bag that is perfect when you want to carry and have easy access to your items, but don’t have enough stuff to justify a backpack. Although it is quite versatile, It’s not for everybody. If you have a smaller frame, it might feel a little too large as a sling, but if it fits you’re back right, it is super comfortable. Oh and I’m still getting used to this buckle system. My previous sling was a Chrome Kadet which uses a seatbelt style buckle. I find the seatbelt style a little easier to connect/disconnect without looking at it, but the buckle on the Defy does feel very nice and I’m sure I’ll get used to it with time. It’s awesome to see companies that still live by the old school “American made” philosophy, yet are combining it with the advantages of modern technology and materials.I will continue to use this bag, and will update this review as time goes on. But for now, I can definitely recommend this bag.
